HOW TO USE VELLUM PAPER FOR WEDDING INVITATIONS

What is vellum paper?

Modern vellum is a luxury wedding paper, super smooth with a waxy finish and translucent in appearance, almost like frosted glass it can add an elegant touch to your wedding invitations. Vellum paper looks great layered or wrapped around wedding stationery and you can get creative with the translucency playing around with the text or florals which are placed behind it.

How Can I Use Vellum for Wedding Stationery?

Vellum is a super subtle detail that can work its way into your stationery suite in many ways, from the base material of your invitations to vellum belly bands or envelopes. It’s available in many colours and weights, although I usually find ivory or white complements wedding stationery designs well.

  1. Vellum jackets or wraps - If you have separate invitations, details cards and RSVPs, hold them together with a vellum wrap. This will encase the stationery set and really add the finishing touches to the design. The wraps can be printed with floral designs, monograms or even a spot of
gold foil, and wax seals can be added to the opening too.

  1. Vellum belly bands - Another beautiful way of holding your invitation set together, is by using vellum belly bands. These are narrow strips of the translucent paper and can be decorated with wax seals or printed if you prefer.
  1. Vellum wedding invitations - Card doesn’t always have to be used for wedding invitations, vellum makes a wonderful base material that can be professionally printed on to in black ink, colour or even gold foil. Or, it can be layered on top of a card and held in place with a wax seal. This technique is great for invitations, but also works for Order of the Day cards and table numbers.
  2. Vellum date strips - I always think that what makes luxury wedding stationery stand out, is the little details. It’s nice to add a little date strip with your wedding date to the invitation, rather than just having it printed on the main card.

  1. Vellum envelopes - Lots can be done with envelopes, from printing or calligraphing the addresses, to opting for a more unusual paper. Translucent envelopes look fab styled with ivory, gold or silver stationery sets. Along with soft colour palettes such as nude, Champagne and blush pink.
  2. Vellum name tags - Also stunning for your ‘on the day’ stationery, vellum can be used to create name tags for your wedding menus. Wedding menus with place names are a popular choice as they combine two pieces of stationery into one, making your table setting less cluttered and being a cost-effective choice.
