For destination weddings, every detail matters, and your signage is no exception. From the moment guests arrive, your wedding signs set the tone, guiding them through the day while quietly reinforcing your overall aesthetic.
Custom wedding signs for destination weddings are a beautiful way to create something that feels completely personal to your wedding. Rather than choosing something off-the-shelf, you can incorporate your colour palette, your location and those little details that are meaningful to you as a couple. Whether it’s a coastal celebration in the USA, a romantic Italian villa or a vibrant Greek island wedding, your signage can reflect the setting just as much as your décor does.
Working with a wedding illustrator is one way to ensure your custom wedding signs are unique, with lots of hand painted details - this could be your venue, local scenery, a bespoke motif, custom wedding crest or perhaps a wedding map. These design elements can flow seamlessly across your ‘day of’ wedding stationery, menus, itinerary cards, welcome signs, table plans etc.
Below are 3 x bespoke design projects with custom wedding signs for destination weddings.
1. Hamilton Island: Custom Wedding Signs for Destination Weddings
Rebecca and Harrison had an October wedding on Hamilton Island, just off the Queensland coast in Australia, and from the very beginning, it was clear this was going to be a fun-filled project.

They wanted a coastal aesthetic that felt fresh, modern and completely personal, with lots of bespoke illustrations and custom shapes to add interest. The colour palette centred around blue and white, layered with iconic coastal details - hydrangeas, lobsters, shells, palm trees and oysters, giving a playful nod to the setting while maintaining a luxury finish.
This was a full design project, and I worked with the couple across everything from their save the dates through to their custom wedding signs, menus and itineraries. The pre-wedding stationery set the tone beautifully, with shell-shaped save the dates featuring hand-painted marine life and palm trees, followed by an invitation suite with layered cards, custom shapes and illustrated borders.

When it came to the signage, this is where the personality really came through. Rebecca wanted to incorporate their dogs, so I created fun illustrations of their Frenchie and Corgi holding cocktails for the bar signage - such a talking point on the day. There was also a wavy-edged bar menu and a rehearsal dinner welcome sign framed with illustrated seafood details to reflect the menu.
It’s these kinds of details that make custom signage so special, they’re not just functional, they become part of the storytelling and provide photo opportunities for guests too.

2. Lake Como: Custom Wedding Signs for Destination Weddings
Lauren and Laurie’s wedding at Villa Regina Teodolinda on Lake Como was all about colour, energy and celebrating their story in a really visual way.
Lauren actually found me on Instagram after seeing a previous venue illustration I’d shared. Although her invitations had already been sent, she was looking for an illustrator to create bespoke pieces for the wedding day and came to me with a beautifully organised brief (a dream!). It included everything from colour palette and florals to fonts and overall design direction, but if you don’t have that, don’t worry, we can always shape this together.

The couple wanted a vibrant, destination-inspired palette. Think hot pink paired with softer tones like pastel pink, lemon, pale blue and greenery, this matched their florals and was in keeping with the energetic, Mediterranean vibe of Lake Como.

The custom wedding signs for this destination wedding suite included an order of events board and a standout escort card display, which became a real focal point. The design featured an illustrated border of all the places the couple had travelled together, almost like a visual timeline of their adventures. The escort cards themselves were shell-shaped with pink tassels, adding texture and layers to the display.
Additional signage included a bar menu featuring illustrations of their three dogs, a gelato menu with a hand-painted gelato cart, plus various table signs, menus and reservation details. The consistent use of bold floral borders tied everything together beautifully.

With so many bespoke illustrations woven throughout, the signage didn’t just complement the décor, it became part of it.
3. Athens, Greece: Custom Wedding Signs for Destination Weddings
Billie and Gil, a London-based couple, chose Athens for their destination wedding, and wanted something that felt vibrant, playful and creative.
The colour palette was bold and joyful, featuring hot pink, orange and dusty blue, alongside bougainvillea - a native plant that instantly evokes that Mediterranean vibe. One of the key design features was the use of arch shapes, which ran through the invitations and custom wedding signs.
The invitation itself was a folded arch design featuring a custom wedding crest, bright floral borders, playful handwritten fonts and a wedding map on the reverse. This helped the guests as it showed where the airport, wedding venue, accommodation, restaurant and local tourist spots were.
For the day-of stationery, I created a series of custom wedding signs including a welcome sign, order of events board and after-party signage, all cohesive with the invitations. The table numbers continued the arch shape, while the place cards were fan-shaped and personalised with guest names - small details that added to the overall styling of the tables.

To make things even easier for guests, I also designed a digital itinerary that could be shared via WhatsApp, including event timings, travel information and dress codes.
If you’re looking to make an impact without endlessly adding florals or rentals, custom wedding signs for destination weddings is such a smart option. A few well-designed pieces such as an escort card display, quirky welcome sign, seating plan or illustrated bar menu can fill space and add visual interest without the cost of larger décor installations.
Custom signage ties everything together. When your fonts, colours, illustrations and motifs flow across your invitations, menus, place cards and signage, it creates a seamless visual story throughout your day. One of the biggest advantages of custom wedding signs is the ability to make them completely your own. Whether that’s a hand-painted venue illustration, custom wedding crest, bespoke motif or pet portraits for your signature cocktail menu. All of these touches make your wedding feel distinctly ‘you’ rather than something generic.

If you are going big and bold with your wedding signs, they can create excellent photo opportunities for your guests too, with visual focal points that are great conversation starters.
